Solutions for Quiet Mobility

Road and rail mobility is an essential feature of modern life. The growing volume of traffic engenders the obligation to make travel as efficient and comfortable as possible. Evonik therefore keeps developing such well known products as PLEXIGLAS®. The plastic is being used for an innovative noise control solution.

Transparent noise control

Noise barriers made from PLEXIGLAS SOUNDSTOP® are now installed along expressways, highways, and rail lines in more than 30 countries, meeting high demands on aesthetics and durability. Their success is audible—a noise barrier made of Evonik PLEXIGLAS® reflects sound and reduces by a multiple factor the noise level in the area lying behind it—and visible, too. Transparent grades of PLEXIGLAS SOUNDSTOP® afford a clear and unclouded view.

Directional stability even in high wind

Stable yet light, PLEXIGLAS® is used as an effective barrier against wind and noise on bridges. The use of the material in spectacular locations such as this is possible thanks to the highly stable structure of the polymer. Should an accident nonetheless occur, the special characteristics of PLEXIGLAS Soundstop® ensure that splintered material does not fall down.
