A brilliant impression
The visual impact and the right tactile properties—technically termed “haptics”—of the surfaces are important here. The feel is crucial if the surface of the material is finished in plastic. The visual impression of plastic components is determined by color and structure, but mainly by the gloss or luster of the finish. Fine, matt coating films communicate a feeling of quality and luxury. The surface has a sophisticated look and is agreeably soft to the touch.
Soft feel on demand
Evonik's ACEMATT® 3200 and ACEMATT® 3300 soft-feel matting agents open up new perspectives for designers, making it possible to vary the plastic surface coating over the entire gamut, from deep matt to glossy. The degree of matt or gloss of the surface is determined by the particle size and the quantity of matting agent used, among other factors. The coatings impart roughness to the cured surfaces, with the inhomogeneities lying in the micrometer range. As a result, light striking the surface is not directly reflected, as from a perfectly smooth surface, but scattered. The surface can therefore take on a dull matt or a silky appearance, depending on the interior designer's choice. Matting agents are as versatile in their uses as in the design possibilities they offer. Plastic surfaces of dashboards, doors, and other interior trim can be coated to give a silky, leather, or rubber finish.
