With its Consumer Specialties Business Unit Evonik Industries is one of the world’s top suppliers of high-quality raw materials, additives, and active ingredients for a variety of applications in the areas skin and hair care, detergents, and special cleaners. The business unit also produces additives, process auxiliaries, and intermediates based on modified silicones and organic oligomers, which are used in the manufacture of polyurethane foam, plastics, and rubbers, to name just a few examples.
The business unit’s activities are shared by the business lines Care Specialties (comprising
the Personal Care and Skin Care Product Lines), Household Care, Silicone Specialties (comprising
the Polyurethane Additives and Industrial Specialties Product Lines) and Superabsorbers. Evonik is
the largest manufacturer of superabsorbents in the world. Used not only in baby diapers, but also
in feminine hygiene and incontinence products, they are remarkable performers. When they come into
contact with water-containing fluids, FAVOR® superabsorbents form a gel that securely absorbs and
holds the fluid once it is bound - even under pressure.
The business unit Consumer Specialties is positioned with a total of 21 production sites in 8
countries and a worldwide sales network. Some 2,800 of the business unit’s employees generated
annual sales revenues of €1.6 billion in 2007.
