Worms produces methacrylates, used in many areas of life. The base and specialty monomers produced in Worms are used by customers in the manufacture of paints and coatings, adhesives, oil additives, plastics, and contact lenses, to mention only a few examples.

Monomers are also the base materials for production of standard and specialty PMMA molding compounds used in optoelectronics and communication technology as well as in the automotive, construction, and lighting industries.

Evonik is the largest industrial employer in Worms. The integrated production site for methacrylate chemicals has been in existence for more than 50 years. The site, situated directly on the Rhine river, extends over an area of about 500,000 sq m. About 1,000 employees of the Performance Polymers Business Unit and Site Services work here today. The Bildungszentrum Rhein-Main (BRM) provides professional scientific and technical training for approximately 90 young people in Worms.
