In order to participate in the latest research findings, Evonik cooperates with leading universities around the world. Examples of this are our strategic partnerships with the University of Tokyo, the University of Minnesota in the United States, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in China, and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia. In 2013 we stepped up our established partnership with Duisburg-Essen University in Germany by funding a junior professorship and ten new scholarships for doctoral candidates. We have been holding regular "Evonik Meets Science" events in Germany, China, Japan and the United States for around ten years in order to strengthen our networks with top international researchers. The most recent event was held in Fulda, Germany in September 2014. In these forums, our experts exchange knowledge with leading scientists from a wide variety of fields and institutions. In view of ever-shorter product lifecycles, development alliances with key customers, which have long been established in our day-to-day activities, are becoming even more significant. For this reason, Consumer Specialties' new innovation center includes a special integrated workshop area that is separated from the remaining research facilities. This ensures collaboration with customers while taking into account know-how protection requirements. Increasingly, we have also set our sights on companies outside the chemical industry that show strong growth, are globally active, and operate in a different part of the value-added chain. This is why we are also seeking partners for innovation projects who may, at first glance, have nothing in common with Evonik, but whose expertise could complement Evonik's quite well.
