In 2014 Evonik Industries provided 14 universities with a total of 186 scholarships. These scholarships, which are awarded by the German government in collaboration with private sponsors, are designed to encourage more young people to pursue a university degree. Additionally we have been supporting students and doctoral candidates with their research through the Evonik Foundation for many years. Indeed, the Foundation's involvement goes much deeper than financial support. Evonik employees support the young researchers during their scholarship as mentors, provide them with insight into the chemical corporation, and help them make valuable contacts. The students are also integrated into the Group's talent programs. In 2013, 23 young scientists benefitted from the assistance of the Evonik Foundation. Evonik employees also participate directly in scientific education by lecturing at colleges and universities, for example. As part of the corporate initiative Young Spirit, Evonik employees carry their own enthusiasm for the natural sciences into kindergarten and elementary school classrooms, where they help the children conduct simple experiments and take a playful approach to teaching them scientific concepts. Evonik has supported the voluntary work of the employees for ten years. Currently, 150 employees are taking part in the corporate initiative and receive regular training in their teaching methods.
