Evonik’s main areas of action in the field of corporate responsibility are derived from the three dimensions defined in its CR strategy.

Dimension: The business  
CR-Issues Management
  • Shaping systematic CR Issues Management will start in 2010. However, continuous monitoring of global media already ensures that Evonik is aware of the topics of public debate and is able to identify and respond quickly to relevant issues. Evonik’s risk management system is outlined in the Annual Report 2008, starting on page 84.
Dialogue with stakeholders
  • A megatrend forum is planned for 2010 to launch a systematic CR stakeholder dialogue. Evonik already engages in dialogue with specific stakeholder groups: the media (corporate.evonik.de/en/media), politicians, authorities, industry associations, scientists, the local community around its sites, employees, representatives of the workforce and students.

Projects
  • The Eco2 Science-to-Business Center was established in fall 2008. It brings together the expertise of the Chemicals, Energy and Real Estate Business Areas in energy efficiency and climate protection in interdisciplinary development projects.

  • To tackle demographic change, three leading companies including Evonik play an active role in the Demographic Change Laboratory set up by the European Union’s CSR Alliance.

  • In response to demographic change and the findings of the Demographic Change Laboratory, Evonik has introduced the Plan@HR project, a new method of long-term human resources planning.

Responsible treatment of employees
  • The main activities center on family-friendly policies and the program for health protection and promotion.

Motivation and involvement
  • Evonik trains its employees to meet the Code of Conduct.

  • Around 76 percent of the Group’s 39,000 employees surveyed in 51 countries responded to the biennial employee survey in 2008.
