Our Contribution to Preventing CO2 Emissions: District Heating from Evonik
Convenient, cost effective, reliable, eco-friendly, future-oriented, and near you. That's district heating from Evonik Industries. For more than 40 years, we've been engineering, building, and operating district heating supply systems and bringing this eco-friendly form of heating to our customers’ homes as needed.
High convenience, coupled with effective environmental protection
Boilers, chimneys, and fuel storage are now history. We free our customers from dependence on oil and gas, and provide heating and hot water — reliably and all year round — for more than 300,000 housing units. And district heating is also easy on the environment. More than 90 percent of the heat comes from cogeneration power plants, which use a process in which the input energy is converted into both power and heat.
The Fernwärmeschiene Ruhr — a district heating network
Evonik engineers have designed and built the first national integrated district heating system in Germany, the Fernwärmeschiene Ruhr. Over a far-reaching transport network extending more than 560 kilometers, we supply housing units, public buildings, swimming pools, hospitals, and industrial and manufacturing plants. With a connected capacity of about 1,400 megawatt (MW), Evonik is the largest district heating supplier in North Rhine-Westphalia.
