Wellness from the Depths
Indoor and outdoor thermal pools, palms and tropical plants, a hot steam sauna, and much more… Wellness is what it’s all about at Europe's largest thermal spa in Erding, near Munich. With one of Germany's most advanced geothermal plants, Evonik Industries makes certain that temperatures stay pleasantly warm—and not just in the spa. As a pioneer in renewable energies, Evonik ensures a sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply to Erding.
Energy from the earth
The discovery of the thermal water was accidental. In 1983, a company drilling for oil hit a thermal water source. This now feeds the Therme Erding thermal spa and is also a reliable source of heating for the area. Evonik engineers planned and built the facility from which, for the last 25 years, Evonik has been operating the district heating supply system for the up and coming town of Erding, near Munich.
Geothermy in a beer mug
Evonik now supplies a number of single-family households in Erding with climate-friendly district heating. And it doesn't stop there: The main building of the well-known Erdinger Brauerei (Erding Brewery) is also heated from 2,000 meters below, which is important for the energy-intensive brewing process for the beer that is drunk all over the world.
