District Heating from Evonik Helps Avoid CO2 Emissions
In the District Heating Business Line, Evonik Fernwärme GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Evonik Steag GmbH, has been engineering, building, and operating district heating supply systems for more than 40 years. As the largest district heating company in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, we supply 2.1 billion kWh of thermal energy per year, covering the heating requirements of more than 300,000 housing units.
Our engineers have built the Ruhr River line. It is Germany's first interregional and integrated
district heating system, which links the district heating networks in Bottrop, Essen, and
Gelsenkirchen. Our cogeneration plants and district heating stations supply our own and others'
district heating networks as well as industrial and business enterprises. Our customers include
municipal authorities and their administration buildings, schools, natatoriums, hospital and church
authorities, housing societies, and private homeowners.
