SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT (SRI)
As a publicly listed company, Evonik is increasingly attracting the attention of financial investors and analysts who base their investment decisions on sustainability performance as well as financial parameters.
Rating agencies operating in this field analyze and evaluate companies on the basis of how they handle economic, ecological and societal opportunities and risks. At present, Evonik is rated by the following organizations:
Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and DJSI Europe
Evonik has again been included in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) Europe and DJSI World, achieving maximum results in the criteria innovation management, climate strategy and customer relationship management.
The RobecoSAM rating agency has once again included Evonik in its prestigious yearbook of economic, social and ecological performance for 2018. Evonik is classified as a Sustainability Leader in the “Bronze Class”. In 2017 Evonik was included in the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe indices for the second time.
CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project)
In 2016 Evonik was awarded a score of “A-” by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), confirming the previous year's very good rating. For comparison: the average rating of the chemical companies that took part in the CDP this year was “C”. Evonik was also granted the status “MDAX Index Leader”, which is only awarded to the top 15 percent of the companies rated. Since its stock market listing, Evonik has participated in the “Investor CDP” category. In 2016, Evonik participated in the CDP Water Information Request for the first time, scoring “B”.
Oekom Research, one of the world's leading rating agencies for sustainable investments, has given Evonik a prime ranking (B-). This places Evonik among the leaders in the chemical industry, which has an average ranking of D. Oekom Research specifically highlighted Evonik's environmental management, climate strategy, and measures to assess product and substance risks, as well as its ethical principles and corporate governance.
In September 2014 Evonik was included in the FTSE4Good index. This index series is published by the FTSE Group, which is wholly owned by the London Stock Exchange. Global companies are evaluated on the basis of stringent criteria in a range of categories including environmental management, human and labor rights, health and safety, sustainability along the supply chain, and corporate governance. Exclusion criteria, risk assessments and posi-tive assessments are taken into account.
STOXX® Global ESG Leaders Index
In fall 2014 Evonik was included in the STOXX® Global ESG Leaders index. This index, which was initiated by Deutsche Börse, among others, comprises the top 25 percent of sustainable companies, based on the transparency of their environmental, social and governance performance. The classification data are provided by Sustainalytics.
Evonik's sustainability performance was rated by Sustainalytics in fall 2015. Sustainalytics uses the ESG approach and rates companies on their environmental, social and governance performance. Evonik is classed in the top 5 out of the 167 companies reviewed in its sector.
