Rating agencies operating in this field analyze and evaluate companies on the basis of how they handle economic, ecological and societal opportunities and risks. At present, Evonik is rated by the following organizations:
In September 2016, Evonik was included in the prestigious “Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World” and “DJSI Europe” for the first time. The specialty chemicals company gained particularly high ratings in all environmental criteria.
In January 2016, the sustainability rating agency RobecoSAM has included Evonik in its prestigious yearbook of economic, social and ecological performance as a Sustainability Leader with the distinction “Silver Class”. This was the first time Evonik participated in the RobecoSAM assessment. Straight away Evonik was included in the top ten of around 70 chemical companies rated worldwide.
As a responsible company, Evonik has given a commitment to report regularly on its climate performance as part of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the world's largest climate initiative. This covers international organizational processes and accountability, and transparent and challenging targets. In 2012, when it took part for the first time, Evonik was awarded a score of 81/D. In 2014, the CDP rated Evonik on a very high level (91/B) when it participated in the Investor CDP for the first time as a listed company. In 2015 Evonik further improved its CDP rating to 98/B.
Oekom Research, one of the world's leading rating agencies for sustainable investments, has given Evonik a prime ranking (B-). This places Evonik among the leaders in the chemical industry, which has an average ranking of D. Oekom Research specifically highlighted Evonik's environmental management, climate strategy, and measures to assess product and substance risks, as well as its ethical principles and corporate governance.
In September 2014 Evonik was included in the FTSE4Good index. This index series is pub-lished by the FTSE Group, which is wholly owned by the London Stock Exchange. Global companies are evaluated on the basis of stringent criteria in a range of categories including environmental management, human and labor rights, health and safety, sustainability along the supply chain, and corporate governance. Exclusion criteria, risk assessments and posi-tive assessments are taken into account.
In fall 2014 Evonik was included in the STOXX® Global ESG Leaders index. This index, which was initiated by Deutsche Börse, among others, comprises the top 25 percent of sustainable companies, based on the transparency of their environmental, social and gov-ernance performance. The classification data are provided by Sustainalytics.
Evonik's sustainability performance was rated by Sustainalytics in fall 2014. Sustainalytics uses the ESG approach and rates companies on their environmental, social and governance performance. Evonik is classed in the top 5 out of the 157 companies reviewed in its sector.
Evonik was integrated in the Euronext Vigeo Eurozone 120 (The 120 most advanced companies in the Eurozone region) as of December 2015. This index distinguishes companies achieving the most advanced Environmental, Social and Governance Performances.
