Formal Opening of New Solar Silicon Production Facility in Rheinfelden
Evonik Industries, SolarWorld, and their joint venture Joint Solar Silicon (JSSi) will celebrate the opening of a new solar silicon production facility in Rheinfelden (Baden) on August 8, 2008. Dr. Alfred Oberholz, member of the Executive Board of Evonik Industries AG, will officially open the facility, which has been under construction for two years.
Evonik is setting standards in Rheinfelden with a new production process that is unique worldwide. This requires only 10 percent of the energy used by conventional processes and is more cost efficient. The integrated production facility consists of a monosilane production plant operated by Evonik and a second plant in which JSSi uses the chemical to produce solar silicon. The production capacity will initially be 850 metric tons of solar silicon per year.
JSSi is a joint venture of Evonik Industries AG and SolarWorld AG in which Evonik has a 51 percent stake.
