The generator

The generator has a stationary part (stator) and a rotating part (rotor). The rotor is firmly coupled to the turbine shaft, which is why experts often speak of a turbine-generator. In the generator the rotary motion of the shaft is converted into electric energy, electricity. In the public power network, alternating current flows at 50 hertz, i.e., the direction of the current changes 50 times a second. The rotor turns together with the turbine shaft at 3,000 revolutions per minute, or 50 revolutions per second, which corresponds to the 50 hertz frequency of the network.
