A marathon with a long-running tradition. The Frankfurt relay race “Around the Anlagenring” was won by one of the two participating Degussa teams.

This was just one of many wins by the light athletics group from Degussa’s Sports Department, founded back in 1921. The first “city relay” took place in Frankfurt in 1911. Initially, only sports clubs participated in the soon-to-be highly popular event that attracted tens of thousands of spectators. Starting in the 1920s, the sports departments of local companies also took part. The teams’ “recruiting marches” joined the run—which since 1925 was mainly around the over five kilometer-long Anlagenring—at the “Römer” city hall, where the award ceremonies took place. Teams from Evonik still participate in many city runs and marathons, including the world’s largest corporate run, the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Frankfurt.
