Automobile manufacturers are not the only ones to rejoice at every kilo less in weight. Components of the future have to become lighter, materials be used more efficiently and composite structures built even more intelligently. Composites are already reliable helpers en route to a new world of lightness. In the automotive and aviation industry, they reduce fuel consumption. In wind turbines, composites provide enormous stability, so that plants can be made even bigger and more efficient.

Composites consist of at least two different materials, such as a matrix material and reinforcement fibers. Using various raw materials and additives from Evonik, these composites offer maximum stability despite their minimum weight.

Evonik is presenting its product portfolio at JEC World in Paris, one of the world’s leading composites shows. Evonik will present the PulPress technique as a solution to one of the major problems so far, the economic serial production of complex molded parts. The process has long been of interest not just to vehicle manufacturers. It can also be used in aircraft construction to produce large number of identical parts cost-efficiently. Lightweight sandwich cores are also gaining in importance for sports equipment.

The products Evonik is showing at JEC include unidirectional (UD) tapes with thermoplastic matrices under the VESTAPE brand. A new joint venture, which is set to become the innovative supplier of lightweight solutions for automotive serial production, will also present itself at the fair. VESTARO GmbH pools the chemicals expertise of Evonik with the engineering expertise of Forward Engineering.
