Evonik Porphyrio® NV
Evonik Porphyrio® NV is a digital production site located in the center of Leuven, Belgium, where the company bundles all digital activities and technological developments in the area of predictive and preventive diagnostic solutions for livestock farming.
Porphyrio has developed innovative systems for the poultry industry (chicken, turkey, and duck) as well as for the commercial egg industry. These systems are based on scientific self-learning algorithms and are operated in the cloud. The systems are developed in such a way that they are operable for an individual farmer or a fully vertically integrated producer.
In 2013 Porphyrio started as a spin-off company from the University of Leuven, Biosystems Department, Division of Mechatronics, Biostatistics & Sensors (MeBioS). MeBioS has an international reputation and is respected for its knowledge and research on sustainability in the agro-food chain, biostatistics, sensor development, and animal health engineering. It is by working closely with MeBioS that many of the innovative models and self-learning algorithms are developed.
In October 2018 Porphyrio became part of Evonik Nutrition & Care, the animal nutrition division of Evonik Industries AG. Evonik is combining all digital activities and technological developments in the area of predictive and preventive diagnostic solutions for livestock farming. This change will allow Porphyrio and Evonik customers to benefit from synergies created between companies within the Evonik group.
