Evonik acquires the hanse chemie Group

Essen. On March 25, 2011, Evonik Industries closed a purchase agreement to acquire the hanse chemie Group. By acquiring the Group, which includes hanse chemie AG and nanoresins AG, Evonik will be able to enter additional markets for specialty applications in silicone chemistry. Both parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The sale is still subject to the approval of the corporate bodies.

"Acquiring the hanse chemie Group is a great way to add silicone-based products to our current activities. Our objective is to enter the market for specialty silicone materials. This move is one more step in systematically aligning our company to specialty chemicals and customer-oriented solutions," said Patrik Wohlhauser, Chairman of the Board of Management of Evonik Degussa GmbH and, from April 1, 2011, member of the Executive Board of Evonik Industries responsible for the Consumer, Health and Nutrition segment, at the signing of the contract.

Based in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, the hanse chemie Group produces high-quality components and raw materials for the manufacture of sealants and adhesives, molding and casting compounds, for example. Hanse chemie AG’s products are used by end-consumers in such markets as the construction industry, automotive manufacture, dental technology, and in photovoltaic systems. The silicate-based nanomaterials and other specialties by nanoresins AG are used in highly scratch-resistant coatings, adhesives, fiber composites, and embedding materials.

Evonik is a leading supplier of such products as organomodified silicones and silicas in a number of industrial and consumer-oriented markets. As a supplier of specialty chemicals, Evonik offers customized properties that help its customers improve their competitive position.
