The current Sustainability Report is published under the title "Next Generation Solutions" reflecting the growing importance of sustainability for Evonik. Focusing on key sustainability issues in a digital format is a characteristic feature of the new report.
In 2020, the sustainability analysis of the business was carried out for the entire chemical portfolio for the first time. Evonik already generates 35 percent of its sales with "Next Generation Solutions. These are products and solutions with a clearly positive sustainability profile that is above or even well above the market reference. The sustainability analysis enables us to incorporate measurable sustainability effects into the future strategic management process and thus provides an additional basis for managing and developing our businesses.
An exceptional picture concept underlines the importance of "Next Generation Solutions". Each chapter starts with a concise example of Evonik's solution expertise, presented by employees.
The report aims to provide interested parties with comprehensive information on the implementation of the Sustainability Strategy 2020+, the achievement of sustainability targets and key performance indicators. It contains detailed overviews and new graphics – for example on business partner audits and the energy footprint – that further enhance information content and transparency.
Evonik's performance in key ratings and rankings is also included in the report. In 2020, Evonik achieved a considerable improvement in the CDP Climate Change rating from the previous "B" to "A-". The rating agency EcoVadis rated our sustainability performance as "platinum" for the first time as part of the "Together for Sustainability" initiative.
The impact of the pandemic on health protection, digital collaboration, value chains and the environment is addressed in a "Corona Special”. In this section, renowned experts from different sectors of society have their say. Employees describe personal experiences in their day-to-day work during the pandemic in “Corona Snapshots”.
Evonik supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Another special section "SDGs in focus" describes the SDGs of most relevance for the Evonik Group in terms of aspects such as governance, goals, and contributions through products and applications.
Once again, the Sustainability Report is published at the same time as the Financial Report. For the first time, a fast-close process was also used for the Evonik Carbon Footprint. This was previously published with a delay of one year. The Sustainability Report 2020 is available exclusively in electronic form in German and English language.
We hope you enjoy reading it.
