SDG 16
Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Challenge
Peace, justice, and sustainability depend on one another – without peace and justice, there can be no sustainable development; without sustainable development, there can be no peace or justice. Strong accountable institutions guarantee peace and justice. Bribery and corruption not only undermine the rule of law and human rights, they impede economic growth, prevent investments in education and health, hamper the creation of jobs, and, ultimately, result in social injustice.
Strong institutions are particularly important for companies and their employees. They ensure legal certainty, protect the property of companies and guarantee the rights of employees.
