Zero hunger

Extreme hunger and malnutrition remain a barrier to sustainable development worldwide. Starving people also suffer more frequently from diseases and can therefore not support or nourish their families. According to Welthungerhilfe, one of Germany's largest private organizations for development and humanitarian aid, more than 800 million people do not have enough to eat, most of these in developing nations.
To combat hunger worldwide, and to feed the world’s population – which is expected to grow from the current 8 billion to 9.7 billion by 2050 – in addition to eliminating poverty, we need to manage the resources that are available on land and in our oceans and rivers differently, more efficiently, and in a more sustainable manner.

• Amino acids from Evonik enable more efficiency and sustainability in animal nutrition and, as a consequence, also in food production for humans: For example, methionine promotes healthy growth especially in pigs and poultry.
• Evonik and Royal DSM established the “Veramaris” joint venture, which produces omega-3 fatty acid products from natural marine algae for aquarculture and thus also counters overfishing of our oceans.
• Evonik Precision Livestock Farming – every stage in the farming of livestock – animal nutrition, health and, husbandry is optimized and the ecological footprint is reduced at the same time.
